Three ways to celebrate earth week

As you may have already noticed from the influx of flyers and events across campus, the week leading up to the double feature Earth Day + Cal Day on Saturday April 22nd is a busy time across the UC Berkeley community! The sun is out, the glade is filled with students and the cherry blossoms have bloomed! It’s a great time to celebrate spring and community with others as this semester nears its wrapping up point. Read on for some great ideas to add to your calendar or text a friend about this week!

Additionally, come by EthiCAL Apparel’s tabling this week and on Cal Day! In honor of Earth Day, we invite everyone to join us in doing small acts to bring about a big impact. From 4/16–4/22, we will donate $1 towards planting trees with the National Forest Foundation for every order $8 and over. We also will be giving away free metal straws and products from sustainable bay area businesses like OCHO and TCHO chocolate!

  1. Attend a SERC Event:

    SERC, or the The Student Environmental Resource Center, is sponsoring a whole packed roster of events and panels this week! Here are just a few that may be of interest!

    Wednesday : Sustainable College Lifestyle Demo from 11 am to 4 pm

    Thursday: Check out the Yoga Session at Wurster Courtyard, The Outsiders Workshop: How to Ethically Appreciate the Outdoors or theRe-Use $ 5 Clothing Sale where you can fill a bag with anything from the store in MLK all for $5!

    Friday: Donate to the Recycling Drive and Brita Filter Drive sponsored by the SERC E-Waste Team!

  2. Celebrate Earth Day at Gill Tract Community Farm!

    After the festivities of Cal Day, go check out the amazing community run farm and gardens at the UC Gill Tract farm on Sunday by taking the 18 line AC Transit bus up through Solano Ave in Albany. Enjoy the celebration with music, food and activities during this one day event!

  3. Check out the wildflower blooms on the Fire Trails!

    If you haven’t gone already, go grab a friend and take to the trails in the Berkeley Hills and the Fire Trails near Clark Kerr! Catch amazing views of the bay and incredible wildflower blooms before they’re gone for am amazing spring semester memory! Try taking along a guidebook for wildflowers or downloading the iNaturalist app to help you identify blooms along the trails!
